We're Back: Health, Production Updates & Our 2029 Plan

Dear friends and patrons,

I would like to begin by thanking those who have written or checked in over recent months. Earlier this year, I experienced a period of ill health which required me to step back from my usual historical work. Many of you—who follow my writing and support Veritas Britannia—will have noticed the pause. Your patience and good wishes have been greatly appreciated, especially so as I've been largely bed-bound for the majority of the past half year.

As Veritas Britannia remains a small, independent enterprise, my absence inevitably slowed communication and production. Our first title, Whispers from No Man’s Land, has also been subject to delay due to a series of unforeseen costs. From the outset, we committed to manufacturing the entire edition within Great Britain, working solely with small domestic specialists. That decision, while true to our founding principles, has proved demanding: for this particular title, British production costs are approximately five times higher than in parts of Eastern Europe, and around seven times higher than in Asia.

Most publishers offset such costs by outsourcing. We have chosen not to. The result is a slower process and a tighter margin, but also a level of provenance and integrity consistent with what we set out to achieve. Each stage—from printing and binding to finishing—has been carried out by British hands, to standards that justify the effort and delay.

To make this model sustainable, our aim is clear. By 2029, Veritas Britannia intends to bring every stage of production in-house, allowing us to maintain full creative control, safeguard traditional skills, and gradually reduce costs without compromise to quality.

To help jumpstart this goal, we are slowly transitioning our system of 'handmade-to-order' (for our stationery and accessories) to standard shipped stock, which we hope to have completed by early 2026. As of now, we are in the process of acquiring storage space within Central London to house this stock - as well as our printed books.

Regarding upcoming texts, our next two titles are as follows: first, the memoirs of Lady Randolph Churchill, Sir Winston Churchill's mother, and second: a collection of Dostoyevsky's novellas.

We will add the ability to reserve a copy of the Churchill memoirs in the coming week, and currently aim to have the first batch of books dispatched before Christmas - just like with our limited edition poetry anthology.

I remain deeply grateful for your continued patience and support. In standing with us, you are helping to establish something enduring: a press committed to substance over expedience, and to the belief that craftsmanship still matters.
